The winter solstice is the year's darkest day. Night outweighs day and the shadows become more present, prompting us to sleep more, slow down, and seek the comfort of our loved ones and community. This workshop will allow us to enter Yule together, to honor the break created by the arrival of the dark days, and to prepare ourselves emotionally, magically, and energetically for our next reawakening in the coming spring.
At the end of this ceremony, you will have not only taken time for yourself, grounded and aligned with the earth, the sky, and your guides, but you will also have had a deep connection with yourself and obtained a first map of your inner landscapes. It is a powerful tool for connecting to the invisible terrain on which our visible life is developing. You will return home with a personal assessment of your year and a clearer vision for the coming one.
Workshop program
Opening of the circle, energetic cleansing and grounding: We begin with an energetic cleansing and grounding session to connect with our respective guides and ask for their guidance and protection for the duration of this coming holiday season.
Guided journeying into our inner landscapes, assessing the present and establishing reference points for the future: I will then lead you on a meditative journey through your personal inner landscapes as a group. We will journey through the four directions and elements that comprise our psyche, our "magic terrain": East, South, West, and North; Air, Fire, Water, and Earth. Each gate we pass through corresponds to a direction and an element, which are associated with chakras, body parts, and specific aspects of our daily lives. From there, we will embark on a journey into our recent past, allowing us to reflect on the previous year, and then we will change course to move into the future, in order to lay solid foundations and reference points for orienting ourselves in the coming year and manifesting what is significant to us.
Banishing & Invoking ritual to manifest conscious change: After the previous guided journey has fully aligned us, we will carry out a transformational act. We will consciously choose what we do not wish to carry with us into the new year - what we banish - and what we hope to see manifest in the coming year - what we invoke - by performing a simple ritual with a bowl of water.
Closing the circle and celebration: We will then close the circle by giving the energy we have raised together to the earth in a final act of celebration (surprise). Then, for those who wish, we will share our experiences over tea and some comforting snacks.
What is Yule?
Long before the Christian church and capitalist ideology annexed the concept of the holiday season, the pagans celebrated Yule and the Romans, Saturnalia. In both instances, people would come together to share their joys and sorrows, stay warm, and welcome the break provided by the coming of winter before returning to their regular activities. Today's consumerist society, on the other hand, influences us to do the opposite: we find ourselves rushing around spending the holidays with people we didn't particularly choose, while spending money we could very well be spending on something else. We are no longer supposed to be in an action cycle at this time of year, which begins with the winter solstice and ends on December 31st: nature is fast asleep, animals are hibernating, and the sun and the abundance it provides are a thing of the past. Aligning ourselves with the changing of the seasons will allow us to take the time needed to lay a new foundation for the coming year.
