Backbending + Open Chest Conversations

Among the many challenges that Asana practice offers, back-bending can be one of the most scary and also most rewarding. Activating the entire nervous system and offering the potential to heal physical and emotional blockages, backbends allow us to feel our bodies and emotions in many different ways.

In this workshop, we will explore beginner to advanced backbend postures, with variations for the needs of different students. Knowing that this is a sensitive practice, we will take enough time to research individual approaches, respecting one's limits, and noticing the effects of the postures. We will also make use of strengthening and grounding practices that allow us to feel safer when moving in challenging backbends.

After the Asana practice, we will have a moment to sit in circle and share how our practice affects our bodies and minds, and how we can take that outside the mat. This is a moment to be in communion with other Yogis and have inspiration to continue the practice.

About the facilitator: Ana has been teaching movement and Yoga classes since 2017. She has been trained in Hatha and Ashtanga Yoga, studied experiential anatomy and different somatic techniques. Ana approaches Asana from a holistic perspective, focusing both on the energetic and physical alignment of each posture and movement.
